How it works

This QR code generator uses the popular qrcode library running entirely in your browser. Here is how it works:

  • Encoding: Your input text or URL is encoded into a QR code matrix following the ISO/IEC 18004 standard. The library automatically selects the optimal error correction level and version.
  • Rendering: The QR code is rendered directly onto an HTML Canvas element. This approach is fast and produces crisp, scalable output.
  • Download: The "Download PNG" button converts the canvas to a PNG data URL and triggers a browser download. No server is involved at any point.
  • Privacy: All processing happens client-side. Your text or URL is never sent to any server. The generated QR code exists only in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I encode in a QR code?
You can encode any text content, including URLs, email addresses, phone numbers, Wi-Fi credentials, plain text, or even vCard contact information. The maximum capacity depends on the content type and error correction level, but is typically a few thousand characters.
Is the QR code generated in my browser?
Yes. The entire QR code generation process happens in your browser using JavaScript. Your input text is never sent to any external server.
What format is the downloaded QR code?
The QR code is downloaded as a PNG image file. PNG is widely supported, lossless, and ideal for QR codes because it maintains sharp edges at any zoom level.
Can I use this for commercial purposes?
Yes, there are no restrictions. The QR codes generated are standard QR codes that can be scanned by any QR code reader. They work in print, on websites, in apps, and anywhere else.
How much text can a QR code hold?
A standard QR code can hold up to about 4,296 alphanumeric characters or 7,089 numeric characters. For URLs, this is more than enough for even very long web addresses.
Will the QR code still work if I resize it?
Yes, QR codes are resolution-independent. Since we provide a high-quality PNG, you can scale it up or down without losing quality. Just make sure it remains scannable — we recommend keeping it at least 2×2 cm in print.
